This is a great technique my bf hates doing it but already within a day we are having progress. Now when I leave my sun concure Mango will scream for about 2 mins INSTEAD of 20 mins straight! AND my quaker parrot Kiwi well him lol... he's special. He used to scream for 2 hours straight to the point where you wanted to just take out the voice box, BUT NOW.. it's about 10 mins... THIS WAS A DAY OF DOING THIS!!! If you think of how to put your child to bed the first time that you don't wait till their asleep.. you get screaming crying.... but ur spouse supports you and you know u are doing the right thing... the next night its a little better... within a week alot better... within a month its like you never did lay with them till they fell asleep. YOU NEED TO BE STRONG!!! YOU NEED TO STAND YOUR GROUND!!!! IT WORKS ALL THE PET TRAINERS RECOMMEND THIS! worse thing for us we live in a apartment.... thats why we always came running back... but what is better.... hearing my parrots scream everytime we leave the room for the rest of our time here... or listen to them scream for a week or so more. It has came to the point where my boyfriend told me you have one month to train them otherwise HE WILL SELL THEM, when it came to this training my boyfriends exact words were I am not changing my lifestyle for these birds, I said back to him then I am not letting u sell them!!! What are you going to do when we have our child and it cries for us to lay with it... I'll ignore it... so IGNORE MY BIRDS!!!! Walk to the spare room, don't close the door put have it almost closed and wait for them to stop. Poor Mango is always quiet before Kiwi so its kinda of unfair to Mango. But I know this will stop them. Another thing is when they squawk while you are in the room leave the room, its like opps I didn't not mean to do that and they get the picture...

I too am about to lose my mind! I have a 10 year old electus that screens daily and now my dogs (and myself) are having problems dealing with her
I have tried everything to make her life comfortable and happy but this is too much
I am thinking of giving her up any suggestions?

I have a 10 year old Alexandrine Parakeet. She is driving me crazy with her constant screaming calls. She started this every November through February five years ago. I understand that this is her breeding season because she lays eggs in February. I have tried creating tree houses with sheets on her cage and bird stand. I let her burrow under newspaper in her seed tray. She will scurry into these enclosures and quiet down, but as soon as I leave she is back out screaming. It is impossible to have guests in my home!!!!My sanity can not take this-it is hard not to spray her. Please help me...

I just purchased a 2 year old nanday conure and she was picked on by children. I know it will take her some time to get used to us but what can I do to get her to trust us and not try to eat us. I have many other birds and love them dearly and they are very sociable with me and I want her to feel as comfortable as possible and not alone or frightened please give me any tips you have

I have a 20 year old Double Yellow Head Amazon. He screams "HELP, HELP, HHHEEELLLPPPPP" every time the phone rings or I start to make a call. I work from home! I have him in the sun room and I close the door a lot during the day because of how unprofessional it is when I'm on the phone with a client and the bird is screaming "HELP" over and over like I'm holding him hostage. He is getting louder and louder and screams longer and longer.

He is driving me crazy and making a nervous wreck out of me!!

I will certainly try the positive reinforcement when he is not screaming; however, I have to close the door on him when I'm working.

So, it's me that's screaming "HELP"!!!!

I have tried to totally ignore it. Mainly she squawks when i'm in the room with her, every 7 seconds really loudly now. she does it first thing in the morning when she gets her breakfast throughout whenever i enter etc etc. if i leave the room she's quiet. I have tried turning my back and walking away only re-approaching when she's quiet and did this for a few hours once, to no avail. I am going out of my mind, the past 6 months have gotten worse and louder. I have tried taking her out and if i get more than 7 seconds of peace rewarding her. Generally she'll be quiet about 10 mins after she's covered up or if there's someone else in the room or i've left for a few mins. i am out of ideas... please help!!

I've walked away from my 4 yr old /Macaw on several occassions, it works. When he starts talking words..like Hi, etc. I go back in the room and talk nice again. I have found that he does this when he's bored. I have moved him to different rooms/picture windows in the house every couple mo's Near the kitchen, living room etc. Since they are very social , I've learned they do not like being alone or ignored, they need to see whats going on. I just need help with stopping him from biting when I start to proceed with arm training..Any ideas ?
