How To Stop Bird Biting Video

So, this here is my ghetto attempt on trying to get a page up with a video (hopefully it works)

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4013888167661190150

I hope you enjoyed the video.

Would you believe me if I told you that it probably took me gazillion retakes to do that? (I might be exaggerating a bit…) Hopefully, with more practise I’ll get comfortable and NOT sound like a boring robot.

So please no mud slinging ;-)

I decided that it’d be best to send you a direct link to the online step-up training report in your e-mail. This way I can be sure that only exclusive members get access to it.

Now, if you don’t mind, could you “try” posting some comments below? I want to be sure that this thing works right.

Oh and while you’re at it, let me know what you thought about this video.

Okay, I’m done for now.

Look out for my e-mail tomorrow

I have a 6 year old male sulphur crested cockatoo that on occasion attempts to lash forward to bite me and also fly into my face when i am in his aviary. On most occasions he is very nice and lets me pat him, tickle under his wing, and cuddle him whilst he carries on singing and dancing and pretending he is a dog barking amongst other things. Why does he do this? (bite) and in your video you state if he does bite put him in his cage. I am in “his” cage which is 20ft x 7ft so how do i combat that? Also he will screach at 6am for me to come and play with him, he doesn’t stop until i acknowledge him . Any tips?

    Hi Danny,
What a great service you are offering here, thanks! I have a 6 month old scaly breasted lorikeet which me and my partner have hand reared from the egg, we try to spend equal time with him but he has really bonded with me and tries to attack my partner quite aggressively when we are together, but is more accepting of rob if I’m not home. He has also become quite a screamer when not let out of the cage, does he need more toys and what do you think the best toys are?
I would love any feedback you can give me.

    Thanking you, Chris

I have problems putting him back into his cage…i can only do this if i have a treat, and if he really wants to go back. How do i put him back into his cage without a treat? Or should i continue with the treat? Even if he has been naughty? What should i do?

I liked the humor in the video clip. I felt that there could be a little more insight on how to get birdies to stop bitting. I guess i was wondering if when petting my bird and she bites do I just let her? Or do I pull away out of respect of her space? Do birds bite eachother like that? Any ways i likes the video. I just feel I don’t have clarity on the bitting thing. I would like to have a better grip on it if possible. I’ts funny, she dosn’t bite when we watch movies. HMMMM?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Sara

  20. Sharon says:

Hey, Thanks for the video and the lessons. They have been very helpful to me. I have a female eclectus parrot that doesn’t want to go to sleep at night, and behaves exactly like “Poly” lunging at me when I try to get her down from her cage to put her to bed, but thanks to you, I’ve learnt to stand my ground and she is improving. I don’t get bit too often anymore.
Keep the videos (and the humor) coming. A lot of us “bird lovers” will be very thankful!

Hi I have a 9mth old African Grey. Im trying to figure out how to keep him on his playtop for longer than a second. He flies off and comes to me. I love his attention but as soon as I ask him to step up he does willingly and then he goes straight up to my shoulder. When its time for him to come down he bites me and I need to know how to gain control and stop the biting? Thank you.

    Danny,

I took in a “rescue” bird a couple of weeks ago. She is a African Grey (senegal)
    and was really abused………
I have been following all of your advice and it seems to working well so far.
She will not step up in her cage but will do anything you want when she is out of the cage……. EXCEPT GO BACK …………………..
I realize it will take quite a while to gain her trust and your expert advice makes me feel as if I have someone helping me :-)

    Thank you

Hi, thank-you for the presentation, however never got the PDF. Would really like to receive as I need all the info I can get. I have a Senegal and an African Grey, the Senegal is very possesive and I need some help, he does not want me to give attention to anyone or anything else, only him.
    Many thanks.

  41. Amje says:

I found the video interesting. But i feel all alone in my parrots biting. Tonight he bit me on 3 different places and it hurts like mad. Its not so much the biting that hurts me so much but the fact that he hurts my heart very much, i do everything i can for him, he gets lots of toys and only the best food available.

I love him to bits but he walks all over me and that makes me very sad.

  42. shah says:

first of all i like to thank u for your very usefull, friendly information. I didn’t try yet with my green pet pal, Hmada, an alexandrian parrot and i got another one which i got it very recently and he may be just one month old baby (i am not sure of his age). He fell off from his home when his perants were attempting to take him for the first ride. So now i have two parrots in two different kinds. Very hard and uncomfortable to work with the new baby and i just left alone him in the cage. But my Hamda is so special and i love it very much. He is free from cage and stands wholeday on top of the cage and goes in to the cage himself in time. He can make ah..ah.. like sounds and interesting. but i have still a problem is biting. So I am sure that your technique works out. if it is not, i beg you to further instruct me, please! Thank you very much once again, dear pet pal D.

  43. sunil says:

    Danny,
Hi Thanks for nice presentation with nice pronounsation.I have recently inherited pair of Lutino lovebird pair. I m eager to learn more.Your video is very educative.

  44. Diane Carr says:

Informative, nicely done. Enjoy your speaking voice, friendly, and professional.
Just a little dissapointed, because I expected actual footage of a person,
working with a parrot, with voice over instruction. I believe I would learn
more, if I could see the process, and results between human and bird.
I do like the fact, that you make a person feel as if you are speaking directly
to them. Nice one on one feeling. I have a 20 year old blue and gold
macaw. We have only had him about 3 years. I believe he was passed
around. I have gained some trust from him, he will lay on his back, in my
lap sometimes to play, will let me cuddle him a little. I still get whacked,
every now and then and I don’t know what I’ve done wrong. Looking for help,
I love him very much. Sometimes he will step up, with no problems. Other
times, I have to use a perch stick, or he will just keep trying to bite me.
Some one must have used this approach in his training before, he does not
try to “argue” with the stick perch. I have him checked by an avaian vet,
his health is good. His weight is good. He eats peanuts, almonds, pistachios,
fruit, and a few veggies, everyday. I think he may be a little hard headed,
    and just wants his way.

  45. Brenda says:

I have Lory and one time she was on my finger and I said pretty bird she bite me on lip,so I did not bother her,now she loved my husband up everyday, now she loves me up and went to bite him when went to change the water. She layed egg and attack us to get her egg so I put glove on and remove the egg.next day she comes out and loves u and goes to the top and then slides to the cage.then some times she comes out and went to top went to change water came down and tryed to bite. She hide under the cup alot. She hated to take bath use to come on finger and I bath her in the sink so now she tryes to bath in her cup water.
