Jasmine the reason your bird was afraid to go into a newer cage is because they have a tendency to be very weary of new things, from new toys, foods, people and a new cage.
Introducing a Grey to a new cage I would recommend you putting his toys in the new cage so he can see them, and then let him on his own decide to climb into the cage.
My Grays with go into any ones cage whether it is theirs or not. My Gray never had that fear of a cage however they have showed some fear toward new toys I get them, but it seems that if is something that belongs to me the dont think twice about tearing it up for me.

Each Parrot is different when it comes to their fears, so you have to take it slow and encourage the bird to go into the cage, but just try to make it look as close to home as his old cage looked.

Hi Kelsi

While we do cover a lot into the diets of African Greys in our book The Tame Parrot, it's difficult to take every single species of bird and cover them.

Greys require a high protien diet. We give our birds meat with their meals, but you can also give your bird eggs and cheese. Soy products also are high protein.

You say your new kid is 9 weeks old? Be absolutely certain that it has been weened. If it's only 9 weeks it's a bit early, and (s)he is still used to being hand fed.

At that age, he can easily handle some Gerber baby foods 2nd or 3rd stages. Try to stay away from the deserts, and give him the meat and dinners. Our kids loved the spaghetti. Introduce some mixed frozen vegi's. Take a small amount and put them in a strainer, then run hot water over them. The bird will take a little bit if time to understand that he's supposed to eat it, and not play with it.

Also be aware that Africans are going to require more calcium and other birds, and if their diet lacks enough calcium they can develop health problems. Seizures is quite common.
