Hi Kelsi

While we do cover a lot into the diets of African Greys in our book The Tame Parrot, it's difficult to take every single species of bird and cover them.

Greys require a high protien diet. We give our birds meat with their meals, but you can also give your bird eggs and cheese. Soy products also are high protein.

You say your new kid is 9 weeks old? Be absolutely certain that it has been weened. If it's only 9 weeks it's a bit early, and (s)he is still used to being hand fed.

At that age, he can easily handle some Gerber baby foods 2nd or 3rd stages. Try to stay away from the deserts, and give him the meat and dinners. Our kids loved the spaghetti. Introduce some mixed frozen vegi's. Take a small amount and put them in a strainer, then run hot water over them. The bird will take a little bit if time to understand that he's supposed to eat it, and not play with it.

Also be aware that Africans are going to require more calcium and other birds, and if their diet lacks enough calcium they can develop health problems. Seizures is quite common.
